Hannah & Dan: Winter Wonderland Wedding

The air is already getting a little brisk this week, hinting that winter is just around the corner. So, I thought I'd share this enchanting winter wonderland themed wedding. Being from North Dakota, Hannah was no stranger to the cold. I loved how she embraced the winter with unique and intricate details. Check out the beautiful photos from Katie Kett Photography:

The invitation suite is the first chance to introduce your theme to guests.
These invitations are simple and elegant with a touch of the winter magic to come.

Love the bride's delicate snowflake jewelry!

The bride wore these faux-fur lined boots.

Me giving the guys a little help with their boutonnieres.

With a matching cloak, the flower girl was a little fairy snow princess!

The ceremony program

I love texture in a bouquet and this bright white bouquet with brunia, pine cones, and dusty miller reminds me of a winter landscape.

Our bride was ready to brave the elements in this gorgous ice blue cloak.
The bridesmaids carried muffs instead of bouquets down the aisle!

Baby's breath pomanders lined the aisles, like little hanging snowballs.

The Ceremony

There is something so demure about wearing a stoll!

Winter accents abounded at the reception at European Crystal Banquets.
The bride gave us a box of decor and gave us free reign to find ways to use it.
We had so much fun!

No need for bride and groom signs.
These crystal snowflakes indicated the seats for the guests of honor.

A mini winter forest scene at the couple's place setting.

The sausage hut is a Polish tradition that defnitely has a wow-factor.
To me, it also brought a cozy feeling, reminiscent of the European holiday markets

Yum!

Snowflakes fell during the First Dance.
Magical!

Congratulations to Hannah & Dan!

Samantha & Ken: Tech, Love, and Video Games

Planning a wedding with a theme is so much fun! Samantha and Ken were college sweethearts who both majored in computer science and shared a love of video games. The goal was to personalize their wedding with a computer and video game theme, while still creating an elegant event. Of course, the key was in the playful details. The photos by Michael Rastall Photography capture the magic:

The bridal party having fun.

Many churches and venues do not allow flower petals to be thrown.
As an alternative, we had the flower girl hand full-stemmed flowers,
to guests, as she made her way up the aisle.
Guests were surprised and delighted by the twist on tradition!

The themed details started with the escort cards, which were displayed as keys on a keyboard.
As guests removed their cards, the keyboard underneath was revealed.

The tablescape featured the purple and yellow color scheme with custom cookies in the shape of video game characters at each place setting.

Instead of table numbers, each table was named after a video game or gaming console.

Some of the custom cookie favors included Kirby and GameBoy.

Cute and yummy!

The traditional money dance involves guests pinning dollar bills to the wedding dress.
But using a sash for pinning can help avoid tears or sticks.

Whimsical signature drinks added to the theme.

The cardbox - can you guess which video game it's from?

Congratulations to Samantha & Ken!

Audrey & Carlos: Love Around the World

Our bride, Audrey, was a craft maven with an eye for details. The heart and soul that she poured into the planning was evident in every moment and detail. And her travel-themed wedding perfectly exemplified how DIY decor can be both fun and elegant. The beautiful, photojournalistic images by Emily Zoladz Photography tell the story of the big day:

Primping for Photos

Instead of petals, the flower girls tossed hearts cut from maps to showcase the couple's travel theme.

The ceremony was heartfelt and moving (even I got teary-eyed!).
Incorporating cultural or family traditions adds a personalized touch to the service.
The Mexican custom of the lasso symbolizes the everlasting union of the bride and groom.

Who needs confetti or bubbles when you have an exuberant bridal party!

Boys vs. Girls

The travel theme was evident throughout the reception decor.
Instead of a guestbook, we spread out postcards for guests to write their well-wishes,
and collected them in a vintage suitcase.

The bride and groom were completely surprised by a family member's gift of a mariachi band to serenade them. When the band appeared right when we were about to transition from cocktail hour to the reception room, it required some quick thinking. To keep us on schedule, we had the mariachi band lead guests upstairs in a spontaneous parade and play while dinner commenced.

Instead of table numbers, each table was named after a place the couple had visited.
A great way to further showcase your bouquets is to use the bridesmaid bouquets again as centerpieces.

If dessert is included in your catering package, you may not want a full-scale wedding cake too.
A small cake on a pedestal is perfect so that you can still capture the classic cake cutting.

Formal affairs don't have to be stuffy!
With a game table, the couple gave a nod toward their fun-loving and whimsical sides.

Congratulations to Audrey and Carlos!

A Wedding for Any Season

After getting engaged, the next step is picking a date.  In thinking about your wedding date, first consider which season is perfect for your style.

Fall

Colors: A fall wedding can take advantage of rich tones. Rather than choosing a color duo, you can combine a full fall color palate. Popular colors include: chocolate, red, orange, eggplant, rust, olive, mocha, and golden yellow.

Décor: Fall decorations can vary from luxurious satins to rustic antique themes. There are an abundance of pumpkins, berries, and leaves this time of year that add a unique touch.

Fashion: Ivory and gold bridal gowns are popular in fall. Be sure to take into consideration the weather change that occurs and dress appropriately for either a warm or cooler day.

Flowers: Gerbera Daisies, Dahlias, Yellow Calla Lilies, Sunflowers, and Euphorbia are stunning fall flowers. Adding autumn leaves to a bouquet or floral arrangement is a great way to bring in the atmosphere of the season.

Seasonal Idea: Spend quality time with your future husband or wife by decorating pumpkins together. Carve your names and wedding date in pumpkins that can be used as decor for a buffet or gift table.

Winter

Colors: All white weddings are classic for Winter. Light blue and silver create a winter wonderland. Deep reds can be a dramatic accent.

Décor: Chandeliers, silver china, and crystals are glamorous touches. You can also add height and texture with bare trees and branches.

Fashion: Ever since the Royal Wedding, sleeves have made a comeback and are great for winter.  If you want more versatility, a lace jacket can be worn for the ceremony and then taken off for the reception. A wrap or stole is perfect to keep you warm for some beautiful outside photos.

Flowers: Roses are classic but you can incorporate white camellias, orchids, and lilies. Accent the flowers with greenery and ivy.

Seasonal Idea: Create personal ornaments you can hang throughout your venue, use as escort cards, or give out as favors.

Spring

Colors: Pastels are always popular for Spring, including pinks, lavenders, light blues, and greens.

Décor: Fill lanterns with a plethora of flowers spilling out. Decorate your cake with flowers between each layer.

Fashion: Add spring details, such as floral accent in your hair.

Flowers: A huge variety of flowers are in season. Spring flowers include: tulips, hyacinths, gardenias, ranunculus, stargazer lilies, peonies, and roses.

Seasonal Idea: Wheatgrass is an inexpensive tool to incorporate into a spring wedding. Use this fresh base for an escort card or favor display.

Summer

Colors: Summer is all about bright colors. Popular combinations include: pink and lime green, orange and yellow, blue and white, and coral and grey.

Décor: Use sheer fabrics to add an airy feel and soften the vibrant color choices.

Fashion: Keeping cool is important in the hot summer weather. Consider dresses with light materials, such as chiffon or organza.

Flowers: Bring in warm tones such as pink, orange, and yellow. Popular choices are Gerbera Daisies, Hibiscus, Roses, Gardenia, Alstroemeria, Carnations, Lilies, and Sunflowers. Alchemilla is a nice filler alternative to baby’s breath during the summer. If you want to a show stopper, add Heliconia, Liatrus, Bird of Paradise, Amaranthus, and Allium to any floral arrangement.

Seasonal Idea: Pick out a variety of tea sets and fill with flowers to use as your centerpieces.

There are tons of ideas for every season. But don't be afraid to simply create the seasonal look you want - any time of year! You can certainly create a festive fall look in the middle of Spring.  Or make a winter wonderland in July. Your wedding should display your personal taste, no matter what time of year it is!
